A new global cybersecurity survey reveals that Sweden is struggling to respond to AI-powered cyber threats. Only 35% of Swedish organizations believe their employees understand these risks. This places Sweden among the lowest in Europe.
According to the report, based on insights from over 8,000 business and security leaders across 30 countries, 84% of Swedish participants experienced an AI-related cyber incident in the past year. The findings confirm a troubling trend. Criminals often adopt new technologies faster than businesses do.
Henrik Bergqvist, cybersecurity expert at Cisco Sweden, comments: “Cybercrime today is a highly professional industry. Many threat actors are well-funded and technically skilled. The accessibility of AI tools enables anyone to create fake text, images, audio, or video—without much expertise.”
Despite this, Sweden ranks low in adopting AI-powered security tools compared to other European nations. Only 33% currently allocate 10% or more of their IT budget to cybersecurity—a drop of 9% from the previous year. Still, 93% of Swedish organizations say they plan to increase security spending in the next 12 months.
Staffing is another critical issue. Nearly half of the surveyed organizations report at least ten open cybersecurity positions. Furthermore, 78% say the lack of cybersecurity expertise is a significant problem.
Meanwhile, 76% expect to suffer a major cyberattack within the next one to two years. Last year, 46% actually did.
At Eye World, we urge organizations to take immediate steps to address these evolving threats. Better training, stronger investment, and advanced AI security solutions are vital for Sweden’s cyber resilience moving forward.
