How the Attack Unfolded
Connex Credit Union confirmed a cyberattack that exposed the data of more than 172 000 members. The incident happened in early June 2025 and was found weeks later during a system review. Hackers gained direct access to internal files containing sensitive records.
Security teams immediately shut down compromised systems and began a forensic investigation. Their findings showed attackers targeted specific databases containing both personal and financial data. The credit union acted quickly to strengthen defenses and close the breach.
Information Stolen and Company Actions
The stolen records may include names, addresses, account numbers, Social Security numbers, and debit card details. Hackers may have also taken copies of government-issued IDs.
Connex offered affected members one year of free credit monitoring and identity protection. They also launched a dedicated hotline for guidance. Security upgrades included advanced monitoring tools and stricter access controls.
How Members Can Stay Safe
Fraud attempts often follow breaches. Criminals may send calls, texts, or emails pretending to be Connex staff. The credit union never asks for PINs or passwords.
